Our final issue of the year! Thanks from Status Hat for listening to our music page as we reflect on another year gone by.

First up we have "238" by Homespun Vector. Building on the outstanding guitar exploration of Rob Servo, this stirring instrumental song blends great rhythm and melodies, with a passionate sense of wordless storytelling. Nice!

Next is the legendary Bay Area drummer Augusta Collins sharing his blues with us as guitarist and singer. After soaking up all the beats he is letting us feel what else he has to say with "1000 Miles From Nowhere".  His hypnotic song shares in the age-old sense of longing and desperation that makes this a real blues gem.

That leads right to Brian McGrath who is also on hopeful journey through the backwaters and "Back of the Yards" of America. From Chicago, this songwriter brings us along with him through the emotions and trials of heartache and discovery. A strong a moving song, Brian truly bares his soul.

Interested in having your original music showcased in a future issue of Status Hat?  Send us a link to where we can listen to your work!

Brian McGrathLISTEN TO BRIAN MCGRATH:

"Back of The Yards"

About Brian:

Chicago has long been blue collar - a place where people work much too hard to worry about irony, a place where the weather equalizes all, a city where people's hands bleed with a day's work. This is Brian McGrath's home.

Brian McGrathA folk singer/songwriter, McGrath delivers with pained passion an honest portrayal of the everyday struggles of regular folks. There are no frills here, only the directness and sincerity of a shared experience expressed through vocals that are powerful yet tender, pained yet hopeful. Musically, McGrath's sound is a unique mix of American folk with Irish folk and rock, a perfect backdrop for his vocals and lyrics. Played live, the songs ignite in a fury of passionate urgency that remains long after the embers have faded and the lights go out.

Brian McGrath is currently playing shows in and around Chicago in support of his debut EP, titled "Back of the Yards" The EP can be downloaded at brianmcgrath.bandcamp.com with a no minimum, name-your-price option.
