Happy 2011 everyone, and hats off to a new year! This year our music page begins with two selections for our "Hats" issue.
First we have "Blur" from Slingshot Genius who hail from Pittsburgh. This song has surging guitars and intense vocals, and seems as if it's a soundtrack for an urban adventure. They chime "in the blur where the skyline meets the sea" as a way for us to look at the ever moving arc of being alive. This band blends many aspects and styles of rock into a fresh and enlivening musical experience.
Next up is more of an inner journey, that so often gets overlooked in our busy society. Father Victor, aka Jonathan Favero, shares with us "Meditation No. 1". This piece slowly builds, layers and draws a sonic landscape for the listener. This allows for a more personal exploration of how we connect with music and sound. Traveling from sparsity to climax, this composition evokes the extremes and textures of the different hats we wear, consciously or not.
Thanks for sharing and listening!

LISTEN TO SLINGSHOT GENIUS:
About Slingshot Genius:
"Alittle Punk, alittle Country, alittle Blues, but all Rock N Roll from the Steel City"!
We are an original rock band from Pittsburgh, PA and have been together since Dec. 2008. We are a 5-piece and offer a bit of diversity from throwing in some trombone in a couple of tracks to busting out a Louis Armstrong or Prince song for a change of pace. If Keith Richards, John Lennon and Dave Grohl mixed their milkshakes with Loretta Lynn, you would have something similar to SLINGSHOT GENIUS.
In Oct. 2010, we released our first CD of original music and are starting to track songs for our second CD this winter for a spring/summer release. You can hear more of our songs and see pics and some video on our facebook page at: http://www.facebook.com/home..php#!/pages/Slingshot-Genius/149674027929 and you can also find us on YouTube under slingshotgenius for some "live" performances.
