Thanks as always for checking out our monthly music selections here at Status Hat. We have two more outstanding cuts (thanks Bay Area, you rock) to share with you as part of our Museums issue.
First up is Bochan, who mixes up the modern and traditional in this expertly put together track. With a great sense of vocal confidence and production value "Chnam Oun 16" traverses worlds through an infectious blend of East/West, new/old and Khmer/English. The final product is a catchy and uplifting song that really gets you swaying along. The rap break with emcee Raashan Ahmed adds a nice flavor, and Bochan really owns this new twist on a coming of age song.
Next up, "The Aspirant", from San Francisco's Flowtilla, sucks you in with an airy intro then slaps you across the face with a funk groove worthy of any 70's cop show chase. The tight musicianship and bad-ass lines just keep you moving right along, an awesome mix of intensity and flow. Great rhythm breaks, and differing sounds and phrases, keep this song fun and fresh throughout. A very worthy effort from these excellent musicians!
